Art Workshops - calligraphy & ink brush painting

Using an ink brush, the teaching artist shows and explains the relationship between ancient Chinese pictographs and their modern day ideographs. The instructor also demonstrates how this simple writing tool and a range of ink colors can coat a canvas to create lush panoramic landscape views of mountains, rivers and forests. Students get to participate by learning how to write with the brush and to create their own paintings and Chinese symbols on rice paper. (Grades: 3 -12, 1 teacher + 1 assistant, 45 min. up to 30 students per session)


Art Workshops - paper cutting & paper folding

A unique hands-on experience! Students practice hand coordination through learning to create images ranging from animals to elaborate designs by simply cutting and folding paper. (Grades: 3 -12, 1 teacher + 1 assistant, 45 min. up to 30 students per session)

Dance Workshops - Fan & Ribbon Dance

Students work with professional dancers to learn Chinese ribbon and/or fan dance techniques, the specific Chinese hand gestures and their symbolic meanings. Drawing from the lesson, students discover how movement evokes feelings and images; how different movements are integrated and interweaved to create new ones; and how to compose a group dance. Simple Chinese language and vocabulary are integrated into the workshop. (Grades: 3 -12, 1 teacher + 1 assistant, 45 min.)


Martial Art Workshops - Tai Chi and/or Chinese Kung-Fu

An introductory workshop that demonstrates traditional martial arts forms origin from Shaolin and Yang Style Tai Chi. It gives students an excellent method of exercise and it improves the physical coordination and stamina as well as develops their reflexes and self esteem. (Grades: 4 to 12, 1 teacher + 1 assistant, 45 min. up to 30 students per session)
